How do I talk to someone I don't know on Facebook?

Last night I was on Facebook, and 'liked' a persons profile picture who I don't know at all. But they popped up and said hi and stuff, it was a brief conversation but they seemed really nice and cool. So I was wondering if I should talk to them again, but how do I do this without seeming creepy?
