Cloning extinct animals?

Have we ever been successful at cloning a prehistoric animal? I've always wondered how an actual North American cave lion would look like compared to today's modern African lions. Last I heard, scientist found a wolly mammoth cub from millions of years ago. However, I don't know if they cloned it or not, but I hope so. I really hope that scientist can find a way to bring these beautiful prehistoric animals back to life. Especially the North American lion, which is one my favorite prehistoric animals.
